Superbowl 44 Betting Odds and Tips

This year’s Superbowl in Miami will once again have its share of super bowl bet opportunities. The game itself pits two of the best teams of the last five or so years against each other in a matchup that has been anticipated since early in the season.

The Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints are deserved combatants and although early betting lines suggest that most favor the Colts, the Saints have proven that they can raise their level of play in big games.

The lines have been set and now it is up to the public to study these odds and make an informed superbowl bet on the outcome of the game. Check out the ever-changing lines at sportsbook for up to the minute odds.

The Indianapolis Colts are favored in this game as the week has gone on, the odds have grown in the Colts favor. Early in the week, those wishing to place a superbowl bet on the pont spread would have been looking at four points, but as the money has been coming in, that spread has landed on 5 with the expectation that it will settle at six points. Does this seem a little high? Remember, the Saints own the number one scoring Offense, Defense and Special Teams in the NFL. If you think the spread seems a little high, place your superbowl bet on New Orleans to cover the spread.

The over/under is another intriguing line that sits around 56.5 points at the moment. It is interesting because the game features two of the top four Offenses in th NFL. 56.5 points seem like a lofty number, but if you break it down, it is roughly 28 points per team – a tad below each teams regular season points per game total.

Not interested in studying the conventional odds, try placing a superbowl bet on the wacky props that incorporate wagers about the pop culture aspect of the Big Game as well as the minute details of each team involved.

In just a few minutes you can be betting on the hottest games for this week.

Super Bowl Expert Betting Pick

The BetUS Sportsbook opened the line at 4½ but since then it has fluctuated between 5 and 5½ in favor of Indianapolis. The predicted Super Bowl over/under has been posted at 56½ points, which is the highest betting total in Super Bowl betting history. A straight up wager on the Saints will pay +170 on the moneyline.

The New Orleans Saints offensive is explosive, finishing first in the NFL in points scored. Quarterback Drew Brees is accurate, completing 70.6% of his passes this season, good for an NFL record. He has solid targets in Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem and TE Jeremy Shockey. When it’s time to hand the ball off, Brees will give it to Pierre Thomas, Mike Bell or Reggie Bush. Sean Payton is creative with his play calling.

The key piece of any offense that rarely gets the credit its due is the offensive line and the Saints have a good one, this week the Saints o-line was awarded the first Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award given to the best offensive line in the league. The line protects Brees as well or better than any other front four in the NFL. The Saints are a threat to score on every possession. That’s a good thing, because they may have to score every time down the field to keep up with Peyton Manning and the Colts.

The Colts offense revolves around one man, Peyton Manning. Manning comes into the game after winning his record 4th MVP this season. Peyton Manning and the Colts won it all in 2007 but this team has a different look, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark are still there but two young receivers have become a big part of the offensive attack.

NFL Betting Line: Indianapolis Colts -5 (56½)

In the past it’s taken Manning’s receivers a couple of seasons to build the report that Collie and Garcon have, that could be a sign of the two youngsters or Manning has moved to the next level of quarterback, he’s become a star maker. The Colts had the worst running attack in the league, finishing dead last in rushing yards, although the Saints defense finished 22nd against the run, so the Colts should gain above their season average.

The Colts defense was average during the regular season but has turned it up a notch in the playoffs. However, Indianapolis hasn’t faced a team with the offensive firepower of the Saints. What will be the key for the Colts is whether Dwight Freeney’s ankle is strong enough for him to play. With Freeney and Robert Mathis, the Colts have a solid pass rush that should knock Brees out of his rhythm. Looking at the stats, the Colts give up too many yards but finished 8th in points given up, they are a classic bend but don’t break defense.

The Saints defense has made great improvements after Gregg Williams joined the coaching staff. They still gave up too many points, finishing 20th. The Saints new aggressive blitz happy defense forces turnovers, fumbles, interceptions, you name it; New Orleans will find a way to take the ball away. The stat that should scare Saints backers is their 26th ranking against the pass, with their blitzing style of defense, they may fall victim to Peyton Manning’s ability to make adjustments and get the ball out quickly. Williams had better have an ace up his sleeve because the blitz may work early but as soon as Peyton Manning figures it out, and he will, the Colts will pick apart the Saints defense through the air.

I like the Saints, they have a lot of likable players and a Super Bowl victory would be fantastic for the city of New Orleans but I don’t see their defense matching up against the best mind in the game. Therefore, I’m taking the Indianapolis Colts -5 to win Super Bowl XLIV.
